How to Make More Art By Participating in Challenges

Sometimes it's hard to make the time for a hobby, whether it's painting, drawing, making pottery, colouring, whatever that hobby looks like to you.

I participated in a 100 Day Challenge this spring and made so much art! It was fantastic! The idea for me was the follow along the 100 Day Project where hundreds (thousands?) of people do all sorts of fun creative things for 100 days. I missed a few days, but I created so much! It was definitely a win for me!

Benefits I found participating in a creative challenge:

  • Found cool, fun artists to follow!

  • Got into a good habit of creating.

  • Got so many ideas out of my head and onto paper/ canvas, etc.

  • Took sketchbook paintings and turned into prints, notebooks, cards, pillows, colouring book- all to sell.

  • Created a mini-show featuring this as a collection. Put the story beside the collection and during the art tour I participated in had so many people say they enjoyed the story.

  • Had fun :)

  • Gave me something to share on social media and people followed along my journey. Someone even started their own challenge!

If you’re looking to create more art, find a challenge to help motivate you! It doesn’t need to be 100 days, maybe you start with a 5 day challenge.

YouTube

Search on YouTube! I did a quick ‘creativity challenge’ on YouTube and found results from challenges for ukulele players, to creating mandala’s, and more! So many fun options, even if the challenge is over, you can still do it on your own!

Create Your Own

Speaking of doing a challenge on your own, why not just create your own personal challenge! Decide what outcome you want- learn about a new hobby, use a new medium, be more creative - and decide on how long you want to do this particular challenge. Chose a time of day that works for you (or maybe you do it once-twice a week for 3 months) and then schedule it in! Try to stay consistent but just have fun with it!

I highly recommend participating in a creative challenge, especially if you’re searching for a creative outlet.

Let me know, have you ever participated in a creative challenge?
